Smoky Quartz is a translucent variety of Quartz; with colors ranging from a translucent brownish-gray to an almost opaque black (morion). The color occurs due to its chemical composition as a silicon dioxide mineral; when free silicon atoms are exposed to natural irradiation. Energetically smoky quartz is a great protection stone on many levels. As a transformative stone, it is excellent at elevating moods, relieving stress, and other negative emotions. It is also very grounding and physically it may help ease diseases occurring around the lower torso. Associated with the Root Chakra.
